WHY I DO THIS?

I grew up in my father's small grocery store.

One summer, a customer came in looking for something we didn't carry.

My father could have simply said, "Sorry, we're out."

Instead, he got on his bicycle, rode across town in blistering heat, bought it himself, walked up to the fourth floor, and delivered it to her.

I never forgot that.

That's where I learned something about business that has stayed with me for more than 30 years:

Business is about people.

It's about listening. Solving problems. Taking responsibility. And doing what you said you were going to do.

That's still how I approach working with small business owners today.
